  Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday governorship poll, Kolapo Olusola has rejected the results of the poll as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared All Progressive Congress (APC) Kayode Fayemi as winner. Chris Okotie, general overseer of the Household of God Church, says God has asked him to tell the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to adopt him as consensus candidate in 2019. A Nigerian police officer took to Facebook to share the story of her colleague, Sgt Christian, and others were killed by armed robbers. According to her, they were killed and burnt by the robbers.        

Security operatives mainly military men were seen patrolling around Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti capital following the outcome of the governorship polls held across the state yesterday. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Sunday, declared Dr Kayode Fayemi, the All Progressive Congress candidate, winner of the governorship poll. He defeated current Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, and 30 others in a keenly contested election. The APC candidate won in 12 out of the 16 local government areas in the state, polling 197,459 votes to edge out Olusola who got 178,121 votes. The soldiers patrolled around the town to ensure that celebrations are in order and there are no attacks from aggrieved citizens.

Coalition of observer groups and Civil Society Organisations that observed and monitored the Saturday July 14th Governorship elections in Ekiti State have condemned the announcement of the All Progressives Congress APC candidate John Kayode Fayemi as the winner of the elections. In a press statement, the group said the election does not reflect what they saw on ground and its will open up on the true findings coming Wednesday 18th July 2018 with details of the malpractices that greeted the election. The Coalition in a press statement signed by its contact persons Comrade Haruna Farouk and Nze Adachi Okoro said it was regrettable that the Independent national Electoral Commission as well as the security agencies could be used to short change the people of the state the way they did on the day of the elections. The Coalition said it has gathered evidence that will show how the election was massively rigged describing the situation as a sad moment for democracy in the country.
