  There was confusion in Odogunyan, Ikorodu area of Lagos State after an auxiliary nurse, identified only as Oyekanmi pulled off the hand of a baby while taking delivery. The police have since arrested the suspect. It was gathered that the victim’s mother, Adeola, was taken to Oyekanmi’s residence last Saturday when she went into labour. Oyekanmi, while attempting to force the delivery, was said to have pulled off the baby’s hand. The baby died when she was rushed to the Ikorodu general hospital, Punch reports. The hospital management then alerted the police on the incident and the suspect was picked up by the police. The source said, “What happened was that the auxiliary nurse tried to deliver the woman of the baby, during which there was a complication. “But she continued and in the end, the hand of the baby was pulled off while she tried to force the child out from the mother’s womb. Police arrested one Timothy Onyeukwu, 61, caught having unlawful carnal knowledge of one female child of about 10 years old in a hotel. Acting on a tip-off, the operatives of the Central Police Station Aba, swung into action and arrested the man while the little girl was  taken to hospital for medical attention. The suspect confessed to have been sleeping with the little girl for months in the hotel.

A shot fired by an unidentified policeman attached to Police Area Command, Idi-Ape Ibadan, on Monday hit one of the eyes of a man identified as Mr Yomi Olaitan, around Oje market, Agodi Gate road, Ibadan.  It was gathered that the victim and other occupants of the car, including his younger brother, were coming from Agodi Gate when the incident happened. It was further learnt that Mr Olaitan who was driving a brown Honda Accord car behind a truck, was hit in the right eye as his brown Ankara top was soaked with blood. As at the time of filing this report, Mr Olaitan was being prepared for surgery, though it was gathered from family sources that his brain was not affected. A French man was reportedly arrested during the capture of Boko Haram's strongest enclave in Sambisa forest last week Friday. DailyTrust reports that the man worked for Boko Haram as a specialist in repairing and unlocking armored personnel vehicles and other fighting equipment. A white man whose nationality is yet to be disclosed, was arrested inside Sambisa Forest as Nigerian troops cleared Boko Haram insurgents out of their last fortress on Thursday. “The man is under custody and providing positive information”, said a soldier, who just returned to Maiduguri from the liberated forest. 22 students of the University of Port Harcourt have been expelled from the institution. The senate of UNIPORT on Friday announced that the students were expelled for various offences including assaulting a female lecturer. A statement was signed to this effect by Dorcas Otto, the registrar of the university. Otto said that some of the students belonged to different cult groups and were found to have undermined the security on the campus. The statement noted that the decision to expel the students was taken at the 426th senate meeting of the university held on Wednesday. Eight of the students were expelled for being part of cult groups, two students expelled for assaulting a female lecturer and disrupting a congress meeting of the department. Twelve other students expelled were former presidents of faculty associations. The institution will resume on January 3 after the Christmas/New Year break.

The Federal Neuro Psychiatry Hospital, Yaba, has said it attended to more patients this year. (2016)  Acting Managing Director Dr Richard Adebayo said the increase was 111 per cent.  According to a breakdown, there were 32,261 females to last year’s 13,730, a 135 per cent rise, and 21,026 male attendance against last year’s 11,537, an 82 per cent rise. Dr Adebayo spoke yesterday in Lagos while giving this year’s annual report. He said new patients recorded this year were 4,031 compared to last year’s 2,531, a 59 per cent rise compared to last year. The breakdown showed 2,001 males compared to last year’s 1,306 (53 per cent rise) and 2,030 females compared to last year’s 1,225. Those admitted rose from 594 last year to 867, with 37 per cent increase for males, 487 this year against 356 last year; 380 females this year against 238 last year, a  60 per cent rise. Also, there is 25 per cent rise in deaths – with four males this year against one last year, a 300 per cent increa
