Anene Otasi at LUTH after suffering gun shot wounds at Ladipo market For the past one week, there has been tension and violence at Odo-Aladura section of Ladipo motor spare parts market following a failed attempt to demolish over 2,000 shops in the market in Mushin, Lagos State, western Nigeria. Fracas broke out at the market after hundreds of thugs invaded the market with arms and two caterpillars and attacked the traders and attempted to demolish shops there. The traders who were caught unawares fought back the thugs and chased them away after many were injured on both sides. source gathered that the thugs were allegedly led by a man well known to the traders. During the fracas many traders including the thugs sustained injuries and are in several hospitals in Lagos receiving treatment. One person has been confirmed dead as traders at the Ladipo Market, Oshodi, Lagos, on Thursday protested against alleged extortion by one Monday Ijoba. It was learnt that Ijoba and his gang members were reportedly employed by the local government authority in the area to collect charges from the traders. Displaying placards which read, “Monday, enough is enough”, among others, the traders chanted war songs. The market is dominated by Igbo, who sell spare parts and electronics, among others. It was learnt that policemen and soldiers mobilised to the scene, but some of the protesters reportedly fired gunshots to chase them away. Adrian Blanche Swain, 29, received a haircut at 619 Barber Shop on Wednesday, left a $20 tip and then returned an hour later pointing a gun point blank at barber Manny Montero and the client sitting in his chair. “She said, ‘look what you did to my hair, motherf----r,’” Montero said. The disgruntled customer attempted to fire the gun three times, but it malfunctioned. Fellow barber Chris Tatum said Blanche Swain came into the salon with a different haircut than she left with. “She came in with a bald spot on the side and I’m like, ‘I didn’t do that,’” Montero said. The Federal Government of Nigeria has said it is not in support of the ballistic missile tests by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Intergovernmental relations, the FG warned North Korea not to proceed with actions that can jeopardise peace in the Korean Peninsula and the world at large. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the North Korean Government should abide by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718 which requires it to suspends all activities related to its ballistic missile programme. The management of the Yaba College of Technology has suspended academic activities in the school for four weeks as students continued protesting against the death of a final year student of the institution, Comfort Dazan, on Thursday. It can be recalled  that the angry students went on the rampage in the college, shutting all its entrances and singing solidarity songs to protest against Dazan’s death, which they claimed was as a result of the poor state of the medical facility in the school. It was reported that Dazan, a Higher National Diploma II student of the Office of Management Technology department, passed on after she fell ill and was rushed to the college’s medical centre, which allegedly demanded N35,000 before she could be attended to. Residents of Kogberegbe Street, in the Isolo area of Lagos State say they have yet to recover from the shock of watching two officials of the Ikeja Electric being electrocuted by high-tension cables. The residents blamed the electricity distribution company, saying something was fishy about the incident. They also called for an immediate investigation and prosecution of suspects, urging that the victims’ families be adequately compensated. The Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory has vowed to probe former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as well as former ministers of the FCT and now governor of Kaduna state, El Rufai, over allegations of Land grabbing during their tenures in office. Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye who spoke to journalist in Abuja yesterday February 10th, said the probe will not exempt any former Minister of the FCT or President, adding that as a government of change, it was prepared to send any one found guilty to Kuje Prison.
