The elder statesman told the Sun, “We avoid what has been seen and heard from the South South and South East and the very people, the ones we expect to be sensible, who have held certain positions in this country, like John Nwodo and Edwin Clark, are now fanning the embers of disunity. “Imagine, they are blackmailing Buhari. I want to assure you that they are not going to succeed. We stupidly handed over power through Obasanjo shen

Fresh Anxiety In Aso Rock Over Buhari’s Health [DETAILS]

Fresh anxiety is mounting over the state of health of President Muhammadu Buhari, who returned to the country on March 10 after a 49-day medical sojourn in London, United Kingdom. The 74-year-old Nigerian leader was only seen in public once throughout last week, when he joined other Muslim faithful for a Juma’at service on Friday at a mosque located near his office inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The service lasted less than one hour after which Buhari returned to his residence. Before Friday’s brief appearance, the last time he was seen in public was penultimate Friday when he attended the same service at the same venue. Presidency sources attributed the President’s continuous non-appearance at public events to his ailing health and the need to take further rest. “It is no longer news that the President has been sick. His ill health coupled with his age is responsible for the scaling down of his activities,” one of the sources said on Saturday. In the Presidential Vi

N387bn debt: Arik founder ‘enjoyed’ federal protection under Jonathan

Image
Dele Ore, immediate past president of the aviation round table (ART), has alleged that under former President Goodluck Jonathan, Johnson Arumeni-Ikhide, chairman of Arik Air, depended on federal protection to hide his shortcomings. Ore said Nigerians were waiting for the KPMG report that would help the government take appropriate action against Arumeni-Ikhide for “deliberately leading the airline to its present pitiable state”. He said it would be appropriate to prosecute him to serve as a deterrent to other business men. “Arumeni-Ikhide previously depended on federal protection, which some us knew would be short-lived as it has eventually played-out with change of government,” he said. “With such huge debt profile no right-thinking government would continue to cover it up, which was why the government ordered Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to step in the fleet of 30 aircraft was fast disappearing among other discoveries.” Corroborating Ore’s statement, Sina

OMG! Elderly Nigerian man robs four banks in New York [Photos]

A United Nations employee was busted for robbing four Manhattan banks, all during his lunch hour, authorities said. Abdullahi Shuaibu, 53, was picked up by cops on Monday and hit with two counts of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery for the crimes committed during his two-month spree, the New York Post reports. All four banks are within walking distance of UN headquarters on First Ave. near E. 42nd St., where the Nigeria native works as a journalist for an African news agency, police said. Authorities were led to the thief after a retired police officer who works at the facility recognized Shuaibu from a surveillance image previously released by the NYPD. In the first incident, Shuaibu walked into a Santander Bank on Madison Ave. near E. 43rd St. on Feb. 27 and told the teller he had a gun. Assad’s wife may be stripped of UK citizenship

Image
Syria's British-born first lady could lose her British citizenship, following the EU’s new raft of sanctions on the Assad family: freezing all of their assets in Europe and banning the members of the family from traveling to EU countries as well. Asma Assad, 36, Born Asma Akhras to a prominent Syrian family living in Britain, has dual British-Syrian citizenship, so the British Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State William Hague had to state earlier that Asma Assad still has the right to enter Great Britain – despite the EU sanctions. British immigration legislation has the means to strip a person of their British citizenship in case the individual “constitutes a danger” to British society – which is definitely not the case with Asma Assad. That is why Britain’s Ministry of Interior is preparing a plan how to act if Mrs. Assad decides to visit her motherland, The Daily Telegraph reports. On Friday, the EU added Syrian President Bashar Assad’s wife, mother and si

Col. Olusegun Oloruntoba (retd.), one of the military officers arrested, jailed and tortured by the regime of Gen. Sani Abacha for the 1995 phantom coup, tells BAYO AKINLOYE about his view of Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi’s book, calling it a tissue of lies I belonged to the Nigerian Defence Academy Combatant Army Corps 11. I joined the Nigerian Army as a cadet of the Nigerian Defence Academy in January, 1972 and I had a very successful career in terms of performance and promotions in the army until I was falsely accused of plotting a coup to overthrow the government of Gen. Sani Abacha – a coup that never was. It was a phantom coup. How were you involved in that phantom coup? I think I was implicated as an organiser of the coup out of sheer malice and blackmail. In 1993, our brother, Chief MKO Abiola, won the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which was peaceful, free and fair but was annulled anyway. In the army, I was singled out as one of those officers who were highly and ve

Lagos State Assembly speaker, deputy reportedly in cold war

Image
There are allegations that all is not well with the leadership of the Lagos State Assembly, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Sanni-Eshinlokun. The news is coming following allegations that majority of the members of the assembly refused to attend a plenary session that was supposed to be presided over by the Deputy Speaker on Monday, April 10, 2017. Sources in the assembly alleged further that the 40 lawmakers in the assembly have taken sides thereby giving rooms for two major caucus in the house. Pulse however gathered that the alleged tale which made rounds has further revealed the crack in the leadership of the state Assembly that has been perceived as peaceful for two years. Another seeming faction of the Deputy Speaker had claimed that there was actually no sitting at all in the house on Monday, April 10, 2017. The caucus further maintained that the Deputy Speaker never presided over any sitting stating that almost all the 39 members of the hous

Whistle blower Starter Pack: 8 Things you need for your new job

Image
If you ever dreamt of a career change, becoming a chartered whistle-blower isn't such a bad idea after all. If you've been around since December last year, you'll agree that you've been in the wrong job. You do need a career change, like seriously. There's something called whistleblowing in Nigeria at the moment and if you get the fundamentals right, you can make enough money to last you a lifetime. Just from two or three whisleblowing gigs. Here's the thing--we don't subscribe to get-rich-quick schemes, but a big pay day is a f***ing big pay day. The whistleblower policy of the federal government of Nigeria now guarantees you between 2.5 to 5 percent of recovered loot. So, here's how it works: If you blow the whistle on any politician, former government official or big man who has stashed looted funds somewhere; and if your whistleblowing leads to the recovery of the loot, you get a decent percentage. Imagine 5 percent of $50M or 5

A Federal High Court in Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced a motorcyclist, James Adamu, to eight years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a foreign-made pistol and 13 rounds of live ammunition. Mr. Adamu, 32, a resident of Du, Jos South Local Government Area, was jailed on Wednesday by Justice Dorcas Ajisi. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr. Adamu, after pleading guilty to the crime, begged the court for leniency. NAN also quotes Mr. Adamu’s counsel, David Adudu, as praying the court to be lenient in its sentence, considering that the accused did not waste the time of the court. Mrs. Ajisi, in her judgement, sentenced the convict to five years in prison for unlawful possession of firearm, and three years for being in possession of live ammunition. The judge, who did not give the convict an option of fine, said that both sentences would run concurrently. She added that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to those who may wa

The Deputy Chairman, Yoruba Unity Forum, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, has asked the people of the South-West to defend themselves with anything at their disposal to stop the incessant attacks by the Fulani herdsmen in the region. Ladigbolu said this in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, after his condolence visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at the monarch’s palace over the communal clash between Yoruba and Hausa in the town, PUNCH reports.
