A police corporal (names withheld) attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Ikeja, La­gos Police Command, on Tuesday night, mistakenly shot his wife in their resi­dence at Egbeda area of Lagos.  Investigation revealed that the officer, who is described as one of the best officers of the command, forgot to put the pistol on safety catch when he got home at about 10.00pm. Excited to see her hus­band, the deceased hugged her husband and also helped him to hang his clothes while they chatted about family issues. He was about to remove the gun from its pouch when it allegedly fired and hit his wife who was sitting on their matrimo­nial bed on his laps. Neighbors, who heard the gunshot said the cor­poral on realizing what happened, grabbed his bleeding wife and raced to the nearest hospital. All efforts to save her failed. Popular soap opera actress and Nnenna and friends Television host, Yinka Olukunga, who welcomed twins some months back, has finally disclosed that she never had a secret wedding but a private one at that. She stated that she and her family members did not want a loud wedding and they had to make it a family affair thing which took place in December, 2014. Speaking with Encomium magazine, the TV star disclosed that she met her hubby while she was serving at Ojodu Berger in Lagos and from friendship it led to dating and finally marriage. According to her, “it’s not a secret wedding. It was just a family affair. It’s just a very small family wedding.” On how she met her man, she said, “I met him when I was serving at Ojodu-Berger, Lagos. We were basically friends, from friendship we graduated into dating and he proposed and we got married in December, 2014.”

US presidential candidate, Dr Ben Carson has announced that he will visit Nigeria later this month. He made the disclosure on Monday, December 7, 2015, during an interview with conservative radio host, Hugh Hewitt. The renowned neurosurgeon will also visit Kenya and Zambia during the trip which will begin on December 27. “To Nigeria, I want to get an idea from the people what the effects of Boko Haram are, what people are thinking, to see what the economic situation is there, and also there’s a medical school there named after me, which I want to visit,” Carson said. “And [I will visit] Zambia, because the twins, the Banda twins are there. More than 130,000 people had signed Wednesday a petition to ban US presidential hopeful Donald Trump from Britain following his call to bar Muslims from entering the United States. Having topped 100,000 signatures, the petition now has to be considered for debate by parliament and will require a written government response. “The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone who wishes to enter the UK,” said the petition. The petition was part of a social media storm after Trump said that radicalisation meant there parts of London where the police feared for their lives. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has charged one Onwuasonya Augustine to court for allegedly swallowing $115,000 to avoid declaring it to officials of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Augustine was on Tuesday arraigned along with five others for the offence of money laundering. The anti-graft agency listed his alleged accomplices as Christian Okoli, Kingsley Nwokenta, aka Buchito, Nwokenta Emmanuel, Ezenwa Ikenna and Ezenwa Uzoma. The six were charged with four counts before Justice C.J. Aneke of a Federal High Court in Lagos. The EFCC prosecutor, Ayokunle Fayanju, alleged that Onwuasonya and the others committed the offence on August 25, 2015, adding that they were apprehended at Room 303 of a five-star hotel in Lagos. Fayanju said the men acted contrary to Section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012, and were liable to being punished under Section 2(5) of th

As many as 20 judges and magistrates in Ghana have been reportedly sacked over allegations of corruption. According to Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, the dismissals are based on thorough investigations into corruption allegations within the judiciary, BBC reported. The issue of corruption in the judiciary in Ghana was brought to the fore in September in a documentary by a respected journalist which detailed, with evidence, the actions of some judges who were caught demanding for gratification to influence the cause of justice to favour accused persons. The chief justice who announced the dismissals said her office who partner with the judicial council to take “prompt and resolute” action aimed at redeeming the image of the judiciary and restoring the public’s confidence in the judicial system.
